## How the Old English X is built

Capital X is a crossing of a curved stroke and a straight one. The lowercase x has a distinctive hook on the left that can drop below the line.

## Easily confused with

Lowercase x and lowercase r are easy to mix up. The x has a second stroke crossing the first.

## Where people use it

X matters mostly for Roman numerals. XIII and other numerals look natural in Fraktur, which is why the numbers page converts dates this way.
