How this works without actual Japanese characters
The output isn't Japanese — it's fullwidth Latin text using the Unicode Halfwidth and Fullwidth Forms block (U+FF01–U+FF60). Each character takes the same horizontal space as a CJK glyph, giving the wide, spaced aesthetic associated with East Asian typography. It's the same fullwidth trick behind the vaporwave and aesthetic styles.

Why do some platforms strip the wide characters?
A few apps normalize Unicode on input, collapsing fullwidth letters to standard ASCII. Bios usually survive; username validation fields sometimes don't.
